Does Rogaine or any Shampoo products work for hair thinning?

Hi im a 18 year old male and I believe my hairline is receding and I been loosing lots of hair over the past few months. I dont know if its because im stressed out from school and work or if im going bald. I also have a fairly healthy diet so I dont think thats a problem. So do any kind hair products really work or are they just to get my money? and how would I know whether or not Im losing hair due to stress cause 18 seems really young to be loosing hair.
