Myth or not: Shampoos/Beauty products containing vitamins work as well as actually eating these nutrients?

What do you think?

Are ingredients in beauty products %26amp; shampoos really going to improve your skin if you only put them on the outside of the skin, as opposed to taking actually nutrients internally;

Example- some shampoos and face cremes contain things such as grapefruit extract and vitamin C.

But

does this only help your skin or hair , if you actually eat a real grapefruit, or can you just put food products in shampoos and face cremes?Myth or not: Shampoos/Beauty products containing vitamins work as well as actually eating these nutrients?
Eating vitamins is better than just application of vitaminsMyth or not: Shampoos/Beauty products containing vitamins work as well as actually eating these nutrients?
Eating the nutrients has to be better for you in the long run. Remember, hair is dead already, so if you want it to be healthier to begin with you have to eat healthier. Putting things on the outside of your skin is good too, however, health begins from the inside out. If you truly want beautiful skin and hair, eat the foods, and use good beauty products. Use both and the package deal should come off quite nicely.
If applying things to your skin allowed you to absorb nutrients then when you went swimming water would soak in and you would drown.
